This wireless control system integrates directly into your vehicle and lets you manage multiple functions with just three programmable buttons.
Whether you’re commuting around Durham, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, or Hillsborough, HomeLink® helps make every drive more efficient and stress-free.
What Is HomeLink?
HomeLink is a versatile, wireless control system built into many modern vehicles. With just a tap, you can:
-
Open and close your garage door
-
Operate a gated driveway
-
Activate or deactivate a home security system
-
Control home appliances and electronics
-
Manage smart home features
It’s one of the most trusted and widely compatible in-vehicle systems available—and it can be installed in almost any vehicle, not just new models.
HomeLink Features and Compatibility
Where to Find HomeLink in Your Vehicle
Depending on your model, the three HomeLink buttons may be located:
-
On the rearview mirror
-
On the overhead console
-
On the center stack/dashboard
If you’re unsure where yours is located, your vehicle’s owner’s manual is the best place to check.
Why HomeLink Stands Out
One of the biggest advantages of HomeLink is its broad compatibility. It works with almost all garage door brands, home security systems, community gates, and many modern smart devices.
You can program it to control multiple systems—and reprogram it at any time.
How to Program Your Garage Door Opener with HomeLink
Before starting, make sure:
-
Your vehicle is parked outside the garage
-
The programming area is clear of people and objects
-
You’ve installed fresh batteries in your garage remote (this helps ensure a strong signal)
Step 1: Clear Existing Settings (First-Time Setup Only)
Press and hold the two outer HomeLink® buttons for about 10 seconds.
Once the indicator light flashes rapidly, release the buttons.
(You can skip this if you’re only adding a new button.)
Step 2: Program the Button
-
Hold your garage remote 2–3 inches from the HomeLink® panel.
-
Press and hold the remote button and the HomeLink® button you want to program.
-
Continue holding until the HomeLink® indicator changes to a solid light or flashes rapidly.
Step 3: Test the Button
Press the programmed HomeLink button once.
-
If your device uses a fixed code, the indicator will stay solid, and the garage door should respond.
Step 4: Activate "Learn" Mode on Your Garage Opener
Most garage door motors have one of the following buttons:
-
Learn
-
Smart
-
Program
Press this on the opener unit until the light begins blinking.
Step 5: Finalize Programming
Return to your vehicle within 20 seconds, press the programmed HomeLink® button, hold for two seconds, and release.
Repeat three times. The system should now be fully connected.
